Part-time Nursery Education for 3 & 4 year olds

All children in Wales are entitled to funded, part-time, Nursery Education provision in an approved early years setting from the beginning of the term after their third birthday and before gaining full-time entry into school.

All local authorities provide a minimum of 10 hours per week of nursery education, this could be in a:
• Local school
• Day nursery
• Cylch Meithrin

Eligibility Criteria for Part time Nursery Education Funding

– Your child will be eligible to commence part time Nursery Education, the term following their third birthday for three terms until they are eligible to commence full time education the term after their fourth birthday.

– You must provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate

– You must complete an application form indicating the number of sessions you wish to claim.  (Please note: this is a separate application to the Childcare Offer for Wales)

In Carmarthenshire, to be eligible for funded Nursery Education:
– Children must attend at least two Nursery Education sessions per week.
– We will not be sharing nursery education funding between approved providers.

Session Details

Part-time places offer up to 10 hours per week of Nursery education, starting the term after your child’s third birthday until the end of the term in which they turn four.

Session options may include:

  • Five sessions per week: 2 hours per day
  • Four sessions per week: 2.5 hours per day

Availability depends on your chosen setting.

How to Apply:

Apply for a part-time nursery place (3-year-olds) – Carmarthenshire County Council

The number of hours applied for must match the number of session hours your child attends

Once authorised, parents/carers and providers receive emails confirming approval. Funding is then paid directly to the provider.
