Flying Start Midwifery Support Offered in the Community
The Flying Start Midwifery Team offer midwifery support to antenatal mothers preparing for motherhood across areas of Carmarthenshire. The Team has 1 midwife and 2 support workers
Midwifery 1:1
The Midwife provides advice and support with sessions around:
- Communication/ Baby’s Brain Development
- Painrelief/ Early Labour at Home/ Labour/ Birth Planning
- Contraception in the Postnatal Period
- Emotional Support in Pregnancy
- Liaising with Supporting Services and the Hospital
- Advice on benefits and completion of MatB1 forms, Maternity Grants and Healthy Start Applications
The Midwifery Support Officers provide advice and support with sessions around:
- Preparing your Hospital Bag for Labour and Items Needed at Home for the Baby
- Breast Feeding and General Advice and Information
- Bottle Feeding & Sterilisation
- Care of the Newborn baby, Bathing, Nappy Changing & Skin Care
- Safe sleeping & Safe Handling
- Recognising When your Child is Unwell
- Coping with a Crying Baby, Baby Ques, Why do babies Cry?
- Home Safety/Care Around Animals & Babies/ Care Seat Safety
- Emotional Support in Pregnancy
- Baby Massage for women within service

Group Work in the Community
Bumps and Beyond Online Antenatal Group.
An opportunity to discuss all the sessions detailed above in a 5 week programme. This online group includes other mums and dads within the Flying Start areas of Carmarthenshire. It runs for 2 hours each session with plenty of opportunity to discuss the information provided in a relaxed session with plenty of breaks. There is an opportunity within the Group sessions to meet other members of the Flying Start Team.

Antenatal Coffee Mornings
Come along and have a chat with the Flying Start Midwifery Team over a tea/coffee/cake in a relaxed atmosphere. There will be an opportunity to meet other Flying Start Team members within the group.
Discussions will include :
- Advice on how to access benefits, assisting with Healthy Start Applications, Maternity Grants and MatB1 forms
- Information on early communication with your developing baby
- Maintaining healthy relationships
- Parenting courses available within Flying Start
- Introducing the Welsh language
- Father’s group work in the community
- Introduction to the Integrated Children’s Centre
- Wellbeing walks in the sunshine (weather permitted)
These sessions are held every Wednesday 10.30am-11.30am (commencing Wednesday 11th June) in Morfa Integrated Children’s Centre, School Road, Morfa, Llanelli. SA15 2AU.
