Social Care Team
Our Social Care Team includes Social Workers, Domestic Abuse Project Workers and Support Officers. They provide support packages for families throughout select Flying Start areas of Carmarthenshire.

Flying Start Social Workers
The Flying Start Social Worker will help families to build on their strengths. They contribute to ensuring the best possible outcomes for families and children. They can offer support, information and advice to families who may be experiencing difficulties. These difficulties include relationships, parenting, mental health, housing and managing debt issues. Flying Start Social Workers work in partnership with families. They aim to develop confidence and independence. They signpost to other support services within Carmarthenshire if needed.

Flying Start Domestic Abuse Project Workers
Flying Start Domestic Abuse Project Workers support families experiencing domestic abuse. They offer group support and one to one safety support. They can provide one to one delivery of the Freedom Programme; Recovery Toolkit Programme; Safety Trust and Respect Programme. The DAPWs give opportunities to families to increase their awareness around the subject of domestic abuse. This helps mothers recognise the signs of abusive behaviour and unhealthy relationships. The aim being to encourage healthy relationships.
Flying Start Support Officers
Flying Start Support Officers work in partnership with parents. They provide a range of one to one home based support for families. This helps parents and carers to build on their strengths and cope with the challenges of parenting and everyday life.
This home based support can include some of the following:
- Breastfeeding support
- Weaning
- Baby massage- to promote bonding and attachment
- Positive parenting strategies to support child development
- Lifestyle skills – routines in the home
- Promoting early language development, speech and communication
- Supporting families to access resources in the community for example Family Centres
- Support with sleep issues, potty training and information on early nutrition and healthy eating
