About Flying Start
Flying Start is a Welsh Government funded programme for children aged 0-3 years 11 months. It supports families who live in certain areas of Carmarthenshire, defined by postcode.

Childcare Service
If you have a child aged 2 to 3 and live in a Flying Start area, they have access to funded quality childcare. This funded quality childcare is available for 2 and a half hours a day for up to 39 weeks. It starts the term following the child’s second birthday up to the term they turn three.
Parenting Service
Being a parent will be one of the most rewarding jobs that you will ever do and sometimes the most challenging! That’s why we have a variety of groups to support all Mums, Dads and Carers. Our workshops are usually held in local family or children’s centres. They’re fun and informal, and what’s more they’re all free!
Health Visiting Service
Health Visitors are Public Health nurses. If eligible, a Flying Start Health Visitor will provide the family with an enhanced health visiting service from the ante-natal period through to 5 years old.*

Midwifery Service.
Preparation for labour, delivery and care of the baby, with one to one support at home and in a group setting.
Focusing on emotional health, reducing stress and promoting early attachment/bonding.
Attending group settings where they can meet and form friendships with other mums.
We aim to increase breast feeding rates within the Flying Start area. We discus the benefits through Health Promotion.
We provide guidance, mentoring and support through pregnancy. Encouraging self esteem and increasing confidence.
We offer emotional support during the postnatal period. A time where most mothers feel that having a new baby can be challenging.
*This is a referral service only. To access it we will need a referral from your Midwife or Health Visitor.
Early Language Service.
Learning to talk is a vital part of a baby’s and child’s early growth and development. Talking to your baby from pregnancy and offering them a wide range of stimulating activities will develop their talking. It helps them learn, thrive and be ready for school.
Social Care Service.
Our Social Care Team includes Social Workers, Domestic Abuse Project Workers and Support Officers. They provide support packages for families in select Flying Start areas.
